Governor Expects FEMA To Help Recovery

Richmond, VA (1140wrva.com) –  Governor Tim Kaine told reporters after receiving a briefing this morning at the Emergency Operations Center that he anticipates starting to receive damage totals within 24 hours or so.  Kaine says the good news is that the Dan River near Danville is not expected to cause the flooding it was originally forecasted to, and structural damage throughout the state has not been as bad as it could have been.

Kaine cautions, however, that more damage may appear as the waters recede.  He does anticipate having to talk to the Federal Emergency Management Agency about re-imbursements and aid.

The Governor did talk for a short time about his decision to attend a Democratic National Committee Fundraiser during the storm Thursday.  Kaine says he was in contact with emergency officials, which he called the best in the country.  He also said it was up to others to editorialize about his whereabouts.
