A driver and passenger suffered life-threatening injuries in a single-vehicle wreck early yesterday on Courthouse Road in Chesterfield County.

The vehicle was southbound about 5 a.m. in the 800 block when the driver lost control, crossed into the northbound lanes and struck a tree, county police said.

The driver was in critical condition at CJW Medical Center, police said. Two passengers were taken to VCU Medical Center. Information about the second passenger was not available.

Police had to detour traffic through a residential area while officers worked at the scene.

Police did not release further details about the wreck, but said it was under investigation.
