Original Article: AUDIO: Gov-Elect Keeps Kaine Finance Secretary

Cites Economy

Richmond, VA (1140wrva.com) – Governor-elect Bob McDonnell (R) has begun to make cabinet appointments, including keeping on Governor Tim Kaine’s (D) Finance Secretary, Ric Brown.  McDonnell says while he and Kaine disagree on areas of the budget, it makes sense in this tough economic time to have keep the same man in charge of the process.

McDonnell did say, however, that any plan to raise taxes or eliminate tax breaks will “not fly.”  Kaine is considering doing away with the “dealer discount” that businesses receive for collecting the sales tax.  Business get to keep a small portion of the tax collected, which amounts to millions of dollars overall.

The Republican also appointed Marla Decker as his Public Safety Secretary, Eric Finkbeiner as his Senior Policy Advisor, and Martin Kent as his Chief of Staff.  McDonnell takes over January 16th.
