RICHMOND, Va. (AP) The Virginia Supreme Court is reviewing the case of a Caroline County woman convicted of killing her husband, a first sergeant in the state police.
The court heard oral arguments in Donna Blanton’s appeal Wednesday.
The 45-year-old Blanton is serving a life term for the 2003 slaying of Taylor Blanton.
Donna Blanton’s attorney said the prosecutor erred in closing arguments by telling the jury that if the defense had any evidence of innocence, it would have presented it. A lawyer for the state said Blanton could have moved for a mistrial, but did not.
Blanton was convicted in 2005, but won an appeal based on improper jury selection. Her second trial was moved from Caroline County to Virginia Beach because of extensive local news coverage, and she was convicted again.
